YellowJackets' Melanie Lynskey Slams Body-Shaming Comments

Melanie Lynskey has recently called out her body shamers and shared some of the underhanded criticisms she has received after the Showtime series Yellowjackets that premiered in November. She tweeted a quote from author and body positivity advocate Ashley C.Ford on Friday writing, "The story of my life since YellowJackets premiered."

The actress added, "Most egregious are the 'I care about her health!!' people...b--you don't see me on my Peloton! You don't see me running through the park with my child. Skinny does not always equal healthy." 

Melanie Lynskey had also talked about how she was openly criticized for her shape during the filming of Yellowjackets by a member of the production team and said, "They were asking me, 'What do you plan to do? I'm sure the producers will get you a trainer. They'd love to help you with this." The actress also shared how her co-stars Tawny Cypress, Christina Ricci, and Juliette Lewis defended her and penned a letter to the producers.

Melanie spoke about how body positivity was important for her character in the series and said that she find it important for the character to be comfortable and sexual and not think or talk about it because she wanted women to be able to watch it and be like 'Wow, she looks like me and nobody's saying she's a fat one.'

She said, "That representation is important. I'm just like, Wow, really? That's where people's heads are at, that the most important thing is being thin or young?"

Back in 2016, Melanie Lynskey also talked with PEOPLE about how she was losing her mind to confirm something that was not physically possible for her. She said, "I was very unwell for a long time. I had eating issues and at a certain point, I was like, I'm not going to survive' -not like I was on death's door or anything, but I was so unhappy and my hair was falling out."

She added, "I was just like, I just need to look the way I'm supposed to look' and have faith that people are going to want to put someone in a film or on a show who looks like his. I did have to truly become comfortable with myself because you can't fake it."

She also pointed out that she rejects roles that aim to portray her size in a negative way and said, "There was a lot of stuff I used to get offered as an actress like the fat friend, that kind of thing, and I just reject it so intensely."

She also admitted that she receives motivations and empowerment from her fans and said, "A lot of women will look like me. I will hear on Twitter or sometimes I meet women who are so grateful to see something reflected back at them that reminds them of themselves."

Melanie Lynskey and her husband Jason Ritter first met while filming The Big Ask and started dating since then in 2013. They worked together in We'll Never Have Paris the next year and two years later, the duo again acted together in The Intervention.

The couple got engaged in February of 2017 and the actress said at the time that she got proposed while they were on the sofa and it happened while she wasn't expecting it. So, he got her by surprise and she called it cute.

However, after the news of their engagement was out, there were no announcements of their marriage but later in 2020, the actress called her fiance, her husband in a tweet writing, "I love you, my husband!"
