Recently, Maya Moore announced her marriage to Jonathan Irons while she appeared on Good Morning America on 16 September 2020. Her husband is the one whom she helped free the prison. Speaking of their wedding, Moore mentioned, 'We wanted to announce today that we are super excited to continue the work that we've been doing together, but doing it as a married couple.'

'We're excited to share this new chapter of life together,' she added.

Jonathan Irons was 16 years old when he was compelled to serve the wrong imprisonment for as he got accused of burglary and shooting in the suburbs of St. Louis. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison.

Maya Moore, age 32, and Jonathan Irons first met when she started activism in his case. Moore got notified about Iron's case by a family involved in prison ministries when she was eighteen. Later, they became friends and led a strong bond for a decade. After serving 23 years in prison, Iron was eventually free, and he went on marrying Moore.

Irons said:

"I wanted to marry her but at the same time protect her because being in a relationship with a man in prison, it’s extremely difficult and painful. And I didn’t want her to feel trapped and I wanted her to feel open and have the ability any time if this is too much for you, go and find somebody. Live your life. Because this is hard."
