NPR has brought a new creation for several artists who can be a part of the work-from-home edition, i.e., Tiny Desk (Home) Concert. And Jhene Aiko is one of them, and she has not remained back in flowing her signature peaceful energy to the room.
The 32 years old Grammy Award-nominated singer performed a collection of eight songs melody, including W.A.Y.S., Summer 2020, Lotus, Do Better Blues, To Love & Die, and others. Also, she translated the tranquility sensuality from her recent album Chilombo on the platform. The on-air live music show featured Aiko using sound bowls used on every track in Chilombo.
Speaking of her album, she mentioned:
“[This album] is an introduction to sound bowls for people who don’t really know about them — this is me introducing my newfound love. The bowls I use are crystal alchemy sound bowls made from gemstones and infused with things like platinum or made out of rubies and diamonds — and all of these different elements and properties contribute to their healing factors. I basically was recording and had a session at my house where I just played different bowls to the music; every chakra has a note that corresponds with it.”
She further mentioned:
"If you’re listening to a relationship song or a song about missing someone or a song about love, I put a bowl or multiple bowls on these tracks that actually embody that message and that feeling."
During the performance, Julian Le accompanied her on keys, Gracia Sprout on harp, Brian Warfield on percussion, and Bubby on bass.
Chilombo was released just before the pandemic (COVID-19) broke worldwide. The collection reached no. 1 on Billboard R&B Albums chart and No.2 on the Billboard 200.
