Ashely Judd Was Married To Ex-husband Dario Franchitti For 11 Years

Ashley Judd, 54, is quite indulged in her career and enjoyment; however, she is no stranger to romance. She was once married to her first and only husband, Dario Franchitti, which was for 11 years as they remained friends afterward.

Dario is a former professional racing driver, who Ashley first linked with during a mutual friend’s wedding reception in 1999, as reported by The Sun. The pair hit off well together, soon turning into dating partners for the next two years until they finally tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at Skibo Castle near Dornoch, Scotland, in December 2001.

Unfortunately, the couple announced their separation in January 2013 amicably. They said while talking with the Us Weekly, at the time:

“We’ll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity and respect we have always enjoyed.”

But, the world was about to see a possible reconciliation between the pair as Ashley was seen to have a change of heart after Dario suffered a near-fatal accident while racing in the Grand Prix of Houston in October 2013, injuring most of his body parts. Nonetheless, the reconciliation did not come around the time as the divorce was already filed.

Amidst the issues, Ashley seemingly expressed her unyielding love for her former husband while reflecting on their divorce during a conversation in the show Ladies’ Home Journal, saying,

“He [Dario] will always be my loved one. Even before our wedding, we agreed not to tell people about our relationship, but to show them instead. What we’re showing them now is we’re human, we’re family, and this is what family looks like.”

Ashley Judd Had A Long Dating History

Prior to her relationship with Dario, Ashley Judd has had multiple men in her life. Her earliest known partner is the country singer Lyle Lovett, whom she dated between 1991 and 1992. She has also been rumored to have dated David Duchovny, Brady Anderson, and Robert De Niro, among a few other big personalities.

Judd then went on to date Michael English around 1995 for a short while as she moved on to Matthew McConaughey in 1996 while working in a movie. Unfortunately, the relationship was also only for a short time. After that, she had some short stint of romance with partners including Josh Charles and Michael Bolton in the following years.

But upon ending her romance and marriage with Dario, Ashley reportedly has not been linked to any of the men as she solely focuses on her life and activism.

Does Ashley Judd Have Kids?

Though Ashley Judd shared 11 years of marriage with Dario, the couple did not give birth to a child. But moving on from their divorce, Dario married a hedge fund executive, Eleanor Robb, in 2014, and they share two kids together; Sofia and Valentina. Ashley is godmother to those kids. Nonetheless, the former couple, Ashley and Dario, remain on good terms.

The actress said,

“Now, he [Dario] is married, and I am the godmother to their child Sofia. We’re given our family of chance that we were born into but also have this unique opportunity to create a chosen family.”

While the star does not have any kid of her own, she does not even plan on having any, as she explained her reason back in 2006 during an interview with Sunday Mail. She said,

“It’s unconscionable to breed with the number of children who are starving to death in impoverished countries.”

She further explained her statement in her 2011 memoir All That Is Bitter and Sweet. Ashley wrote,

“The fact is that I have chosen not to have children because I believe the children who are already here are really mine, too. I do not need to go making ‘my own’ babies when there are so many orphaned or abandoned children who need love, attention, time, and care.”

And she seems quite happy despite being childless at her age.
