Inde Navarrette is having the kind of year most actors wait a whole career for, and on Halloween night it landed her on the Saturday Night Live stage. The Obsession star hosted for the first time on October 31, with Gracie Abrams along as the musical guest.
Inde Navarrette Makes Her Saturday Night Live Hosting Debut on Halloween
It was the fourth episode of SNL's 52nd season and the first live Halloween show in six years. Only four Halloween episodes had come before it since the show started in 1975. Navarrette walked in as one of the most talked-about people in the business, thanks to the horror hit that made her a name.
Her monologue went straight at Shane Gillis. While joking about her workout routine for the Marvel job, she brought up his controversial comment about women's gym clothes and flipped it right back on him. The crowd loved it. She also swore she's nothing like Nikki, her creepy character in Obsession, and then pointed out her boyfriend, who'd been taped to a chair in the audience.
From there she had plenty to do. She played one of three clueless guys in The Uninterested Woman Dating Show and a deadly serious investigator in a PAW Patrol crime parody. Reviews of the full episode were mixed, but the AV Club said she looked like she was having more fun than any other host this season.
The Inventor's Wife: One Widow, One Robot, One Brutal Punchline
The sketch people are talking about most is a pre-taped short called "The Inventor's Wife," from Dan Bulla. Variety called it the standout of the night and one of the better digital shorts SNL has aired in a while and singled out Navarrette's timing.
It starts out soft and sad. Navarrette plays a widow giving a eulogy for her husband, an eccentric inventor who, as she puts it, loved his inventions and liked his wife. Back home, she finds the gift he left in his workshop: a small, Wall-E-looking robot called PD 44. They become friends, even though neither of them knows what the robot is actually for. "That makes two of us," she tells it.
Six years pass, and she's ready to date again. She matches with a guy named Tom (Ben Marshall) on an app, and the first date goes well enough that she brings him home. That's when PD finally shows what it was built for. It turns into a giant, menacing machine, rips off Tom's penis, and zaps him with a laser until he explodes. PD, it turns out, stands for Penis Destroyer. Covered in blood, the widow decides her husband loved her after all. The setup is what makes it work. The first half plays like a gentle little drama and the second half like a horror movie, and Navarrette commits to both.
Before She Was Inde: Danielle Navarrette's Tucson Beginnings
Danielle Fabiola Navarrette was born on March 3, 2001, in Tucson, Arizona. Her family was in the military, so they moved around a lot, and by fifteen she had been through eleven schools. After her parents separated, she mostly grew up in Visalia, California.
Her mom gave her the nickname "Inde" because she was so independent as a kid, and it stuck. It was a full house, too. She has four siblings: an older brother, two younger brothers, and a younger sister. With all the moving, being the new kid was just part of life long before she turned fifteen.
She says her interest in acting came from both sides of her family. Her career started in 2018, so she's been at it about eight years, and she's only 25. SNL was on her mind long before this. Ahead of the show, she said she'd been watching it since she was a little girl and had been jotting down sketch ideas. She also brought up Taylor Swift, who wrote her own monologue for her 2009 hosting debut, as inspiration.
From Small Screen to Scream Queen to Superhero
Navarrette started in television and has been working since 2018. In 2025 she played Teresa Flores in the action film Trap House. The big break was Obsession, a supernatural horror movie from Curry Barker where she plays Nikki Freeman. It ruled the box office this summer and pulled in about $522 million worldwide, which turned her and co-star Michael Johnston into overnight sensations. Focus Features started an awards campaign for her this fall, and she has already shot another horror lead, Invertigo.
There's more on the way. She's set to star in The Waffle House Index, a sci-fi thriller Apple Original Films picked up, with Brad Pitt's Plan B producing. She's also playing Rogue in Marvel Studios' first X-Men movie, which is still about two years from theaters. She's been working on Rogue's Southern accent and recently tried out the character's "Sugah" in an interview. The cast around her includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister.
She has opinions about the industry, too. On The Kyle Buchanan Show in October, she said Gen Z audiences want movies that don't feel like they're trying to sell them something and that they're tired of ads and product placement. A hit horror film, a Marvel role, and an SNL hosting gig, all in one year. Navarrette is closing out 2026 as one of Hollywood's clearest rising stars.
