Shane Carruth is accused of physical, mental, and emotional abuse for years by his ex-girlfriend Amy Seimetz. As a result, Seimetz obtained a temporary restraining order against Carruth. Seimetz alleged that one night in 2016, Carruth jumped on her in a hotel room and strangled her until she struggled to breathe.

As per the filings attached to her application for the order, she mentioned that Carruth continued to harass and abuse her even after the breakup in 2018. The restraining order first came to light with Carruth's tweet on 10 July 2020, where he posted a picture of the vinyl album of 'Upstream Color.' Underneath the album, there was a copy of the restraining order, and the names were visible.

Amy Seimetz filed the application for the restraining order back on 12 June 2020. At the time, she stated that Carruth's messages were disturbing, and she was terrified of him. Before that, Carruth sent her a threatening message on 15 May, which read:

"You are Shiva, the goddess of death. I see you. I will know when it’s time for you to be done… You should be scared. You don’t know what I’m going to do… You should be scared.”

The application for the restraining order further states that, a 'threat assessment report' was conducted by a private investigator which came with the findings of 'Shane Carruth used the medium to the high level of threat.' A forensic psychologist, who investigated the case mentioned that Carruth showcased the 'fixation' and made a 'direct homicidal threats' to Amy Seimetz.

This is not the first time that Shane Carruth is accused of abuse. Back in 2018, his ex-girlfriend Seimetz obtained an early restraining order after she filed a case citing that he repeatedly screamed her while drunk, put his hands on her, and called her a "stupid wh**e" and a "stupid c—." Back in the time, Carruth denied any physical altercations, and the judge made the order temporary.

Even after their breakup, Shane Carruth harassed her with freaking emails and threatening messages. The recent application of restraining order against Carruth features an email from December 2018, where he wrote:

“You want to fight me? Bring it. I will kill you.”

Amy Seimetz called him not to make contact with her; however, he responded with a threatening text that read, 'I know exactly where your house is… you'll never beat me. Understand how dangerous you are making this encounter.'
