First Trans Man To Feature On Cover Magazine

Oscar-nominated actor Elliot Page has become the first transgender man to star on the front cover of Time Magazine.

He has been nominated for various awards for Oscar-winning 2007 independent film Juno, where he played a leading role in The Umbrella Academy

Page followed in the footsteps of actor Laverne Cox, who became the first trans woman to appear on the cover of Time under the headline The Transgender Tipping Point in 2014.

Since 2014, transgender rights came into the focus of a fierce debate in the United States and worldwide. President Donald Trump announced a ban on trans personnel joining the U.S. military. Over the past 12 months, dozens of U.S. states have proposed bills to ban trans women and girls from competing in women’s sports. But Joe Biden overturned the rule by his successor. Biden’s pushed for greater LGBT+ inclusion.

In December 2020, Elliot announced himself as transgender. He expressed that he felt remarkable and loved to be transgender. He pursued his authentic self.

After an emotional journey and the fight for LGBTQ equality, he has been on the first cover of Time magazine in16 March 2021.

The Time magazine has shared the picture of Elliot in the official Instagram page captioning;

"I'm fully who I am," says actor @elliotpage. In his first interview since disclosing that he is transgender, Page tells TIME that understanding himself in all the specifics remains a work in progress. Fathoming one’s gender, an identity innate and performed, personal and social, fixed and evolving, is complicated enough without being under a spotlight that never seems to turn off, writes Katy Steinmetz. But having arrived at a critical juncture, Page feels a deep sense of responsibility to share his truth. “Extremely influential people are spreading these myths and damaging rhetoric—every day you’re seeing our existence debated,” Page says. “Transgender people are so very real.”

He has shared his cover photo from Time magazine on Twitter and tweeted that;

''With deep respect for those who came before me, gratitude for those who have supported me & great concern for the generation of trans youth we must all protect, please join me and decry anti-trans legislation, hate & discrimination in all its forms.''

Page told Time that he had long felt a disconnect between how the world saw him and how he felt himself. He has never recognized himself. He could not even look at his photo for a long time. He also talked about undergoing surgery to complete his transformation and the struggle for transgender equality.
