The former AFL star Nick Riewoldt has won the Celebrity MasterChef during Monday’s tough grand finale among the three finalists – Collette Dinnigan, Tilly Ramsay, and himself. They were tasked with recreating chef Martin Benn’s incredible ‘Metropolis dessert.’
Chef Benn billed the dessert ‘Blade Runner versus Cherry Ripe’, which is combined with a white chocolate shell with layers of coconut Chantilly cream, praline crunch, chocolate cream, a fermented cherry gel, and a caramel chocolate mousse.
The three finalists only took four hours to replicate the near-impossible dish, which surprised even Benn himself and admitted that he didn’t think they would be able to complete the Metropolis.
The judges faced Riewoldt’s dessert at last, and the judges praised him for it. They gave him 38 out of 40 having two perfect 10s. Benn said that his dessert had everything we were looking for, and Jack Zonfrillo shared that it was ‘99% there.’ Melissa Leong expressed, “I’m smiling on the outside and the inside- I'm so pleased for him. It's a triumph.”
The former Australian rules footballer shared that he is overwhelmed and said after winning, “It’s one of the best things I’ve done, one of the best experiences I've had.”
After winning the title of Celebrity, MasterChef, Nick was provided the coveted trophy and $100,000 for his chosen charity which was dear to him as he was playing for the charity Maddie Riewoldt’s vision. It was named after his sister, who had died at the age of 26 due to cancer.
Nick had revealed that his sister inspired his signing up for the cooking competition as she was a big fan of MasterChef. He told The Herald Sun, “She was a proper foodie and experimenter in the kitchen. She would have absolutely dined out on the fact I'm on Masterchef and she would be rapt with the fact that I'm competing in her name.”
