New York Yankees announced from their official Twitter account that they had acquired former AL MVP Josh Donaldson, shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa and backup catcher Ben Rortvedt from the Minnesota Twins on Sunday night in exchange for Catcher Gary Sanchez and third baseman Gio Urshela.
Minnesota Twins also tweeted about their deal of exchanging Josh Donalson, Isiah Kiner-Fafela, and Ben Rortvedt for C Gary Sanchez and INF Gio Urshela. It was reported that no cash was involved for this trade and for Donaldson's $21 million salaries in each of the next two seasons plus a $16 million mutual option for 2024 wth a $6 million buyout if declined by the team was responsible to Yankees. Josh had the richest free-agent deal in the franchise history when he agreed to a $92 million, four-year contract with the Twins.

Kiner-Falefa hit .271/.312/.357 with a pretty decent glove and Rortvedt is a catcher who played 39 games for the Twins last year hitting .169/.229/.281. Kinner-Falefa was a third baseman during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and was moved to shortstop last year. He is also eligible for arbitration for 2022 and 23 and for free agency after the 2024 season.
