For the violation of terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program, John Collins got suspended from NBA for twenty-five games without any pay in November 2019. As per the NBA sources, he tested positive for Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide-2 (GHRP-2). 

Also, the NBA revealed that his suspension would begin from the game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks on 5 November 2019.

Concerning the suspension, John apologized to his teammates, Hawks organization, and his fans and also expressed his frustration and disappointment for putting himself in the awkward situation.
