Emil Riis Jakobsen Receives First Denmark Call Up

Emil Riss Jakobsen was added to the Danish Squad as an extra man as Denmark was set to face Scotland in a World Cup qualifier tonight. In comparison to other Danish players, Riis has been on Denmark’s radar of late, which is an amazing moment for Riis. He has proven his worth the gamble at North End.

The 23-year-old player Riis was signed to Preston from Randers last year with £1.2 million, and after just two league goals in his first season, people considered him not worthy, but this season he has washed all those doubts away. This season, he has found his goalscoring touch with 11 goals in 21 outings. Riis got rewarded for his performance in this season with a call-up to the senior squad after representing his country through the youth ranks.

Riis will join up with Kasper Hjulmand’s side immediately ahead of their World Cup qualifier in Glasgow on Monday evening against Scotland.

Riis had told in an interview with the Lancashire Post, “We’ve had a few wins in recent games but obviously the Nottingham Forest defeat before the international break was a big disappointment. It was good to score in the first game and it was early too. The result was poor but maybe it was the start I needed. I signed for Preston on October 1 last year and my first season I was getting used to being here, taking knowledge from the games.”

It’s a great club and all the lads on the team are really good. Hopefully, we can get some wins and get higher up in the table, but it’s an amazing club and I like everyone all around the club, there are good people here.”

The head coach Frankie McAvoy has spoken all praises for Dane and is hopeful of him for the future. He said, “ We know his biggest strength is running, his power, and his pace, but to be an accomplished striker you need to add other strings to your bow and we’re working as a coaching team to try and enhance those attributes that he’s got. I’m just delighted that he’s signed an extension to his deal because I believe that he’s got the chance to develop here at Preston North End and I know that the fans have enjoyed watching him this season and hopefully there’s many more good days to come from him.”
