The Cherokee Nation expanded its court system after the supreme court ruled the Muscogee (Creek) nation was not disestablished in purpose to enforce the federal Major Crimes Act. Following the incident, Bill Barr, the United States Attorney General, mentioned that the Department of Justice is intending to more give more than $7.5 million to the Cherokee Nation.

Barr stated that he is looking forward to discussing how the Department and Justice and Cherokee Nation can jointly meet the short-term challenges during the McGirt decision. He added, 'Unfortunately, COVID interfered with my travel plans for six months.'

On Wednesday, the Department of Justice mentioned that it is giving $300 million to tribes across the United States. Barr said that the funds provided by (DOJ) would be used in several platforms, including the tribal victim support services, supporting law enforcement, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As per Barr, around $40 million will go to nations in Oklahoma, and $7.6 million will go to the Cherokee Nation.
