Susan Lucci Underwent Second Emergency Heart Procedure

In an interview with Good Morning America on Monday, the 75-year-old actress Susan Lucci spoke about her battle with heart disease. She shared how she recently underwent an emergency heart procedure for the second time.

She recalled that she had a kind of shortness of breath and felt some discomfort around her ribcage and back. She said that she had the same kind of symptoms she had in 2019 during her first heart procedure. She said that she felt a shortcoming and going on her jaw as she laid down, so she went to the emergency room with her husband, Helmut. 

She shared that the doctor found out that she had 80% blockage in one of her arteries due to plaque buildup, so she was rushed to surgery, and another stent was put to open up the blockage in her arteries. She encouraged women to listen to their bodies and learn about the warning signs of heart failure saying to be our won best friend and our own advocate in order to save our own life.

Actress Susan also pointed out how she was lucky to have her platform to share about her disease and to aware more people. She expressed her gratitude to the fans she made over the years.

Susan had nearly 90% of her artery clogged, supplying blood to the heart and 75% of another artery too, but she had a successful surgery at the time in 2019 and left the hospital and appeared on stage two days later at the American Heart Association's 15th annual Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection runaway event. Since her surgery, she has encouraged women to listen to their bodies and acknowledged that heart attack had killed more women than all cancer combined, so she urged everyone to listen to their symptoms and act on them.

Susan Lucci had shared her secret to looking so good in her 70s with Harpers Bazaar and gave credit to her core strength, flexibility, and energy for her glow in her 70s. She also shared her diet, stating that she started her day with a cup of coffee with organic sugar and did a pilates routine before her breakfast. Her breakfast included greek yogurt with organic pumpkin seeds and lingonberries. Her lunch was beefsteak tomatoes with slices of roasted turkey, avocado, fresh mango. And lastly, her dinner was a light salad of salmon, broccoli, and steamed carrots.

Her workout routine runs every day, and she takes one day off, even in her 70s. She has shared her love for pilates and has done it for decades. Her everyday workout routine included ten different exercises like 30-100 reps per exercise and used Pilates Pro Chair, which is an updated version of the Wunda Chair. She does cardio and resistance training. Her workout style is The Hundred, The Roll up, The Saw, The Bridge, and The Teaser.

Despite all of her healthy diet and exercise routine every day, she suffered from heart disease in 2019 and had her second emergency surgery in 2022. She was also quite shocked to learn about her heart disease and thought that she always had her mother's genes, but her father's heart disease meant that she was also at risk. The actress had shared that her father had a calcium build-up in his arteries, and it was in her DNA too.
