The international community regards June as the month of LGBTQ pride and dignity. The LGBTQ community and its supporters are celebrating the month with a bang, despite the outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
We have already covered many high-profile celebrities including Cara Delevingne, Lili Reinhart, and others have swirled throughout the month regarding the celebration.
The recent one is SpongeBob's sexuality, which is drawn into the limelight once again through the tweet of Nickelodeon.
Is SpongeBob Gay?
Nickelodeon's set the internet on fire with just one tweet about LGBTQ pride month on 13 June 2020.
Nickelodeon tweeted pictures of SpongeBob SquarePants and wrote 'Celebrating #Pride with the LGBTQ+ community and their allies this month and every month.' But, it garnered another stray of comments implying that SpongeBob is a queer.

Nickelodeon, on the other hand, has restarted the long-running conversation and debate about the beloved sea sponge and his sexuality. Back in 2002, SpongeBob was celebrated as a gay icon. That also had several controversies as many thought that the character himself was gay.
Nevertheless, SpongeBob was celebrated as a queer on 13 June 2020. And "SpongeBob IS GAY" is becoming trending on Twitter recently, which sparked his sexuality debates.
Many fans are pouring their opinions regarding the sexuality of SpongeBob. A user named @ApolloLXXXIX mentioned:
'I don't care if SpongeBob is asexual, bisexual or gay, I stan him.'
On the other hand, some cited that the late creator of SpongeBob, Stephen Hillenburg never intended to make the character gay. A user named @RiseFallNick wrote:
'We never intended them to be gay. I consider them to be almost asexual. We're just trying to be funny, and this has got nothing to do with the show.'
But, it seems pretty clear that SpongeBob is asexual as the creator himself had admitted it back in 2005.
Whether or not, the sexuality of SpongeBob is the part of never-ending talks and debates. But, the current tweet from Nickelodeon has pulled the conversation to the height once again.
