Jameela Jamil, who plays Tahani Al-Jamil in the N.B.C. sitcom, The Good Place, has come out as 'Queer' on 6 February 2020. Jameela mentioned that her past and acknowledgment as an actress compelled her to keep the facts low-key.

She wrote that she did not want to come out as a queer like this and announced that she would be out of Twitter for a while because she does not want hateful comments.

On a Tweet, the English actress with South-Asian family background further elaborated:

"Twitter is brutal. This is why I never officially came out as queer. I added a rainbow to my name when I felt ready a few years ago, as it's not easy within South-Asian communities, to be accepted, and I always answered honestly if ever straight-up asked about it on Twitter."

She is the judge of a T.V. series named Legendary, which highlights the modern-day ball culture, which initially originated in the 1920s.

The ball culture gained its wideness in New York's black and Latino L.G.B.T. communities as a response to the homophobia, transphobia, and racism.

Jameela followed on her Twitter with a statement:

"I know that my being queer doesn’t qualify me as a ballroom. But I have privilege and power and a large following to bring to this show (as does the absolutely iconic Megan Thee Stallion) and its beautiful contestants and ballroom hosts. Sometimes it takes those with more power to help a show get off the ground so we can elevate marginalized stars that deserve the limelight and give them a chance.”
