Alex Moffat

An hour after Jim Carrey steps down from Saturday Night Live, Alex Moffat debuted on SNL on 20 December 2020. Jim Carrey announced his retirement earlier on 19 December from Saturday Night Live on Twitter.

"Though my term was only meant to be 6 weeks, I was thrilled to be elected as your SNL President...comedy’s highest call of duty. I would love to go forward knowing that Biden was the victor because I nailed that shit. But I am just one in a long line of proud, fighting SNL Bidens!"

Alex Moffat replaced Jim Carrey with a role as President elected Joe Biden on Saturday Night Live cold open. And other stars Beck Bennett as Vice President Mike Pence, Kate McKinnon as Rudy Giuliani, Kenan Thompson as Dr. Ben Carson, and guest star Maya Rudolph as Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris.

During the show, Alex hit the stage, sporting a boot on his leg, like Joe, who fractured his ankle in early December 2020. He then joked that he is the fifth actor to play Biden in less than 15 months.

President-elected Joe Biden has previously been portrayed by Jason Sudeikis, Woody Harrelson, and John Mulaney.

In 2016, Moffat joined SNL, and up to his fifth season as a cast member, he portrayed Eric Trump and Mark Zuckerberg.

Saturday Night Live airs live on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET / 8:30 p.m. PT on NBC.
