What Happened to Lucie Blackman? Cause of Death

Lucie Blackman went missing on 01 July 2000 in Japan after she went on a work date with her customer. She had taken a job in Japan working at the Casablanca nightclub where she would go on dohans – paid dates with customers of the club. However, On 01 July 2000, Lucie disappeared after she went on a dohan with a customer. In fact, it was the last time she was seen alive. Later, a man called her friend, Philips, and told him she joined a cult and would never contact him again.

Then, Philips reported to her family, and they began a media campaign that caused then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair to mention the case on his visit to Japan. As a result of investigations, a Korean-Japanese property developer, Joji Obara, became prime suspect after a month of missing. However, he denied being involved in her disappearance, although he admitted to meeting her.

Seven months after her disappearance, Lucie’s body cut into 10 pieces and badly decomposed, was discovered buried in a shallow grave under a bathtub in Kanagawa. In fact, Lucie’s body was found 30 miles south of Tokyo and a few hundred meters from Obara’s apartment. Joji Obara was arrested and charged with abduction, rape resulting in death, disposal of Blackman’s body, and also for killing Australian model Carita Ridgway in 1992. Moreover, Joji was found guilty of raping eight other women. As a result, he was sentenced to life in prison in 2007.
