Netflix dropped a comedy-drama named Cuties on 9 September 2020. The movie has brought the story of an 11 years old girl who joins a group of dancers named 'The Cuties' at school. As a member of the dance group, she rapidly grows aware of her burgeoning feminity that upsets her mother and values in the process.
Fathia Youssouf stars as Amy (as Fathia Youssouf Abdillahi) in a comedy-drama named 'Cuties.'
'Cuties' is the award-winning French movie, which is considered for an investigation into it for sexualizing the young girls. Also, IMDb's parent's guide rates the movie's sex and nudity as "severe." While the film won an award in France, it did not go well in the United States, and the hashtag #CancelNetflix trended on Twitter.

It was released as 'Mignonnes' in France and also won an award from Sundance Institute, but it received the backlash after Netflix released it on its platform. The movie shows that the protagonist named Amy has to please her Muslim family, who immigrated from Senegal. However, she falls into a group of dancing friends and joins them in defiance of her strict family rules.
The director of the movie, Maïmouna Doucouré, mentioned:
"The movie incorporated elements of her own childhood in its portrayal of Amy’s struggles between two distinct modes of femininity: one dictated by the traditional values of her Senegalese and Muslim upbringing, the other by Western society."
"I recreated the little girl who I was at that age,” she said. “Growing up in two cultures is what gave me the strength and the values I have today. As a child, that question of how to become a woman was my obsession”
Doucouré mentioned that the idea of Cuties struck on her mind after she saw a group of 11 years old girls performing "very sexual, very sensual" dance in the neighborhood of Paris.
She researched for one and a half years on the same target groups before planning on bringing them into a movie. 'I needed to know how they felt about their femininity in today's society and how they dealt with their self-image at a time when social media is so important,' she said.
