Roland Gutierrez appears to run off the election for the nomination of state Senate District 19 seat against his opponent candidate, Rep. Xochil Pena Rodriguez. Roland has 42% vote on his side, and Rodriguez has 39%, but both of the candidates will have to obtain a 50% vote to avoid the runoff that takes place on 26 May 2020.
His opponent, Rodriguez, a daughter of Bexar County Justice of the Peace Ciro Rodriguez, is focusing on making health care accessible to her district. Many of her supporters were seen waiting for the final results at a watch party wearing campaign T-shirts and holding signs.
On the other side, Roland, a well-known Democratic ballot, left his post as a member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 119 to run for District 19. Along with his candidacy, he has his agenda that focuses on education, healthcare, and legalizing cannabis. If Roland wins the election, he will face Republican Pete Flores in general election in November 2020.
