Everything About Avatar's Sequel

The legendary filmmaker, James Cameron had directed Avatar in 2009 which broke box office records. With the massive success of the science-fiction film, Avatar, the director James had aimed the release of Avatar 2 for 2014 but due to technology crisis for underwater scenes led to significant delays in the writing, pre-production, and visual effects. So, the sequel is currently planned for a release on 16 December 2022, with the following three sequels to be released on 20 December 2024, 18 December 2026, and 22 December 2028 respectively.

Actually, the upcoming Avatar 2 was set to premiere in December 2021 but it was postponed to December 2022 due to the ongoing pandemic. The filming lasted for three years from it was filmed in 2017 until 2020 with the movie blending live-action footage and state-of-the-art CGI effects.

The Cast Of Avatar 2

All the original cast members are present in Avatar 2 where Sam Worthington plays Jake Sully and Zoe Saldana plays the Na'vi princess Neytiri. The villain role of Colonel Miles Quaritch portrayed by Stephen Lang has also returned on this sequel. In fact, Quartich will serve as the villain for all four sequels. Even though Quaritch was killed in the first film, the director has brought back him because it's a science fiction story as he said, "I'm not going to say exactly HOW we're bringing him back, but it's a science fiction story after all."

Sigourney Weaver played the role of Dr. Grace Augustine who had died in the first film is returning for the sequels in a strange twist. The new cast member is Kate Winslet who plays a Na'vi. The other cast members as CCH Pounder as Mo'at, Matt Gerald as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet, and The Sopranos' Edie Falco as General Ardmore. Avatar 2 will also focus on the child of Jake and Neytiri named Spider which is played by Jack Champion.

The Plot of Avatar 2

Avatar 2 will be focused more on the children of Jake and Neytiri as they have now become the leaders of their clan. The story will show more inclination towards the next generation of Pandora as Producer Jon Mandau said, "I think the story of Avatar 2, and the strength of the story, is what Jim always does in any of his movies: he writes in universal themes that are bigger than any one genre. And if you think about this, there's really no more universal theme than family. At the center of each of our sequels is the Sully family. What are the dynamics that parents go through to protect their family?"

At the end pf the first film, many locations of the new Pandora were teased when Jake united the clans against the humans with vast new plans and oceans along with a lush green moon.

Teaser Or Trailer of Avatar 2

The trailer for Avatar 2 is set to release in the summer of 2022. However, the project has been under many long and extensive post-production and usage of best CGI standards to match the level of today's technology so it is reasonable for the trailer to take its time. Moreover, the first official photo of the sequel was released last month showcasing Spider.

The Avatar 2 is set to be a box office hit with all the excitement and expectations for the second sequel of Avatar which was a major blockbuster too. While many critics are ready to cancel and dismiss the film even before its release, their preparations show how much the film will create buzz and set new records.

The first Avatar was released in 2009 after ten years of postponements. The film won many awards like it received nine Academy Award nominations and won three of them. The film had an 82 % critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was also the highest-grossing film of all time for more than a generation. However, many people commented on the Avatar film to not be so much fantasized. But the director Cameron took that in mind and created new technology for Avatar 2 to transform the way films are made. He created underwater motion capture technology that needs the performers to be immersed in a 910,000-gallon tank that stimulates ocean currents and used his new technology to film Avatar 2.

The director of Avatar 2, James Cameron has spoken about how he'd never do the sequels if the first film, Avatar hadn't made so much money. He has shared how he loved to combine his two greatest loves saying, "One of which is ocean exploration: the other, feature filmmaking" Cameron said, "My colleagues within the production really lobbied heavily for us to do it 'dry for wet', hanging on wires. I said it's not going to work. It's not going to look real. I even let them run a test, where we captured dry for wet, and then we captured in water, a crude level of our in-water capture. And it wasn't even close."

However, after all those 13 years, Cameron hopes that audiences will still connect with his vision of distant planets and adventure and he also discussed his planned sequel's future saying, "The big issue is: Are we going to make any damn money? Big, expensive films have got to make a lot of money. We're in a new world post COVID, post-streaming. Maybe those box office numbers will never be seen again. Who knows? It's all a big roll of the dice."
