Val initially dated an American actress Ellen Barkin, who is five years older than him. They had a short-lived relationship in the early 80s. Similarly, he started dating the Goddess of Pop, Cherilyn Sarkisian, aka Cher in 1982.
They first met at a birthday party organized by Meryl Streep. They took their relationship on their shoulders for a couple of years and eventually dismantled their bond in 1984.
