Phillip announced his gay sexuality via a tweet on 7 February 2020. Through the tweet, he poured his heart out and unburdened years of feelings. He further thanked his family for all the love and support they gave him and for open-heartedly accepting his sexuality.

The TV host also expressed that though his wife and children were confused by his revelation, they accepted his decision and supported him.

After his revelation, his 27-year-old daughter Molly also sent a message to her dad stating that her family has united more and she has nothing but more love towards her father.

Later, he appeared on the ITV show This Morning and further discussed the matter with his co-hosts. He thanked his colleague Holly Willoughby for all her support and even called her the sister he never had.

Despite coming out as gay to the world, Phillip has no immediate plans to get involved with a partner. He wants to take things slow and wait for the right moment to start a romantic relationship.
