Bullying Allegations Incident of Kim Mingyu
Kim was controversial in bullying allegations made by his classmates from school.
The first accusations against Mingyu were made through social media posts on 22 February 2021, and then the second post with school violence allegations against Mingyu was made on 26 February 2021. Through the Instagram post, another person alleged saying that Mingyu, along with his friend, had sexually harassed her.
Different posters without identity have come forward in online communities, claiming that Kim Mingyu of Seventeen was a bully during his school days. One such poster claimed that he was a member of a delinquent group of students. He often skipped class, smoked and drank underage, and stole money from students.
All KPop has provided the screenshot of groups by the victims, suggesting that Kim Mingyu also bullied several students during school time. Messages purport that he used to throw desks and garbage at one of the students.
The victims were hesitant to reveal the truth because Mingyu was a popular idol member. They decided to raise their voice because they would get retaliation from the perpetrator and Kim's fans. Victims said that they wanted to reveal that he wasn't a nice person that many people believed.
Bullying allegations against Mingyu led him to halt all his activities temporarily. Later, as many issues are being raised socially regarding school violence, Pledis Entertainment met those who had made bullying allegations against Mingyu to verify the facts behind the allegations.
As reported by International Business Times, Pledis Entertainment released a statement denying the accusations of bullying. The Pledis said they had met up several times with the person who wrote regarding an incident that occurred when they attended the same Hwaam Middle school.
They shared that the post's writer experienced various personal matters unrelated to Kim while attending middle school, and the victim said they wrote the post to publicize what happened in middle school. Regarding the issue, Mingyu answered that he did fool around with male students in his class at Hwaam. Still, he did not intentionally cause misery or humiliation to a specific individual. And he really apologized for everything that he had done in the school.
The victim accepted Kim's apology, and they said that they do not wish for this matter to cause harm to Kim's career. So the argument against bullying allegations on him has dissolved.
