Kemba’s boyfriend Peter came out of prison and when police found that Peter was involved in a multistate cocaine-trafficking ring, he began eluding law enforcement. 

While Peter was on the run, Kemba joined him and got pregnant. When Kemba returned to her parents’ home, she had a federal warrant for arrest. Then Kemba turned herself in on 01 September 1994 and gave birth to her son named William Armani Smith while awaiting sentencing.
