Their mutual friend introduced them in 2008. The couple got engaged in November 2016, where Jonathan Knight proposed to Rodriguez on an African vacation with their parents.
Jonathan spilled the beans to Jenny McCarthy on her SiriusXM radio show:
“We were in Africa, our parents were there — our moms were there — and I just figured this was the time to pop the question…Rodriguez had no clue about the proposal…We were on the Zambezi river, it’s right above Victoria Falls. We took a nighttime raft dinner, just the four of us out on the river. There was a hippopotamus in the background…It was a super moon. It was just absolutely beautiful, it was so romantic.”
Jonathan legally changed his last name to Jonathan Rodriguez to celebrate the Supreme Court's decision to legalize gay marriage.
The lovebirds lived together in New York City until 2018. The couple moved back to Jonathan's home state of Massachusetts in their current farmhouse.

They have been passionately planning their wedding ceremony scheduled to occur in 2021 but unfortunately, COVID-19 outbreak as per people.com.
"We were going to get married on the farm this year under a tent and then have the ceremony in our barn," referring to their Massachusetts property. "We had everything lined up: the caterers, the entertainment. We were going to get married under candlelight. And then that all just stopped."
Previously, Jonathan Knight dated Tiffany Darwish, a singer, and famous 80's pop star, in May 1988. They first met in Tiffany's dressing room when NKOTB auditioned to open her next tour.
