British pop singer Dua Lipa has been striked with second copyright infirngement strike for her song Levitating after a pair of songwriters claimed that the song is a copy of their 1970s disco hit. They claimed that Dua Lipa's Levitating was substantially similar to the 1979 Cory Daye sing Wiggle and Giggle All Night written by L. Russell Brown and Sandy Linzer.
The two songwriter's lawyer alleged that Levitating's signature melody was a duplicate of the opening melody of Wiggle and Giggle All Night and the 1980 Miguel Bose song Don Diablo. It was said that the notes of the song moved in the same direction with evenly matched intervals or steps and had almost identical rhythms.
They also said that the British singer, Lipa had admitted of deliberately emulating prior eras of music to create Future Nostalgia which was the album containing her song, Levitating. They added that the defendants had copied Plaintiffs creation without attribution in order to seek the nostalgic inspiration.
Furthermore, the accusers were demanding unspecified amount saying that they had suffered damages including lost profits to be proven at trial. Before this lawsuit, Lipa was also accused of copying a song from a Florida-based band called Artikal Sound System and selling it as her own. They filed a copyright infringement suit of their own and claimed that their 2017 song 'Live Your Life' was ripped off by Dua Lipa's Levitating.
