Barbie Hsu Divorcing Chinese Husband

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu and her wealthy Chinese husband, Wang Xiaofei, have confirmed their divorce after being together for 10 years. There were even rumors before their confirmations when fans noticed Wang had removed all traces of Barbie from his Douyin app. It seems the main reason for their divorce was long distance. Mr. Wang is based in China for work while Hsu and their two children reside in Taipei from the beginning of the pandemic.

When the rumors of their divorce were soaring on the internet back in June, Hsu’s agent denied the rumors and told that the couple was just quarreling and that nothing was wrong. Then, suddenly the actress announced to Taiwan Apple Daily her decision to divorce her husband mainly coming from the triggered Xiaofei’s controversial political comment on his Weibo.

He had praised China’s handling of the Covid-19 and slammed Taiwan. He even called the Taiwanese ‘a bunch of traitors’ when two confirmed cases on a flight were from the Island to the Chinese city of Xiamen. Their mutual friends also confirmed that the actress had been contemplating a divorce since last year and had different values and principles. Their relation became loose after she moved to reside in Taiwan permanently.

However, according to Mirror Media, Hsu has famed lawyer Lai Fang-yu to represent her in the divorce proceedings, which had also represented Stella Chang in her divorce last year.

As per the reports, Barbie had filed a petition formally for divorce at the Family Division of the Taipei District Court in early November. The two released a statement that said,

“After serious and careful considerations, Mr. Wang and Ms. Hsu have decided to divorce amicably and have begun related legal proceedings. Mr. Wang and Madam Hsu met each other because of fate and spent beautiful times together. Even though they choose to part ways now, they are very thankful for what they have given each other. They walked together as spouses in the past. In the future, they will remain cordial relations as parents and friends, and raise their children together with love”

Mirror Media had also reported that they would be dividing assets worth around NT$950 million in property belonging to Barie and also NT$350 million in Xiaofei’s S Hotel in Taipei. It has also been said that the two have reportedly reached an understanding of asset division and arrangements for spending time with their two children.

When the actress announced her divorce from her husband of 10 years, many fans and her parents and manager and even her husband, Mr. Wang was shocked. Both of their mothers denied the rumors, and when asked about it to Mr. Wang, he said that he was unaware of the divorce.

Barbie’s mother even said that Barbie talked about the divorce in a fit of anger and that she would ask Xiaofei and Barbie to bear with each other. Mr. Wang’s mother also said that they were not getting a divorce saying, “It’s been very difficult for him. He has to fly to Taiwan to look after his wife and kids. He has to go through quarantine when he gets back to the mainland too. He really spoils his wife... Neither Barbie nor Xiaofei has notified me of such a thing, so please be prudent when you hear of rumors like these.”
