She had suffered from severe autism and a condition called Locked-in syndrome as she remained in the same position on her parents’ couch for an estimated 12 years.

Lacey’s autopsy report dictated several reasons as the cause of her death, including chronic malnutrition, acute starvation, acute ulcer formation, and a bone infection leading to sepsis.
When Police questioned Lacey’s parents about her state, they claimed to have cared for Lacey by cleaning her and bringing her meals. They also shared that they found no reason to call for a doctor as Lacey was in a sound state of mind.
