It seems that Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty has to face ten years in prison after pleading guilty to charges regarding his failure to register as a sex offender. Petty has changed his plea from not guilty to guilty in the US District Court in Central District of California on 9 September, Billboard reported.
A court document obtained by People magazines that Petty, 43, pleaded guilty during a virtual hearing with the US District Court for the Central District of California, which oversees both central and southern parts of the state.
Petty could face up to ten years in prison and a lifetime of supervised release. He was scheduled to be sentenced on 24 January 2022.
Petty fresh legal trouble started when he moved to California. TMZ reported that he faced legal problems that began after being pulled over by the Beverly Hills Police Department on 15 November 2019. The department determined he was registered as a sex offender in New York but not in California, where he currently resides. So that was the start of his legal trouble began in California.
Petty was arrested in March 2020 after being convicted for failure to register as a sex offender. During the period of arrest, he didn't plead guilty and posted bailed $100,000.
In response, Petty filed a lawsuit to the State of New York and its Criminal Justice Services division to remove his name from the sex offender's registry. He claimed he never got notice of a hearing about it back in October 2004. As Petty's legal troubles continue to pursue, he is not alone, and his wife Nicki Minaj also lands trouble.
Petty's court sentenced causes his wife Minaj to cancel her performance at the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards on the same day. When a fan asked about her performance, she said she had to cancel.
“I just pulled out,” Nicki Minaj tweeted. “I’ll explain why another day. But I love those guys at MTV. thank you, Bruce. I love you so much. Next year we there baby.”
Petty's legal case was registered when he attempted first-degree rape of a 16-years-old girl in 1995. He was sentenced to four years of prison time, and he was registered as a level two sex offender in New York, which means he’s considered a “moderate risk of a repeat offense.” Later, he was released in January 1999.
In 2006, Petty went back to prison for the first-degree manslaughter following the gunfire resulting in the death of Lamont Robinson in 2002 and served nearly seven years before being released on parole in May 2013.

In August, Jennifer Hough, a victim of assault in September 1994, filed a new lawsuit against Petty and Nicki Minaj. She accused a couple of witness intimidation, negligent infliction of emotional distress, harassment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and harassment. In addition, she claimed that Minaj has been pressuring her emotionally to drop her lawsuit and even threatened Hough’s daughter with a personalized birthday message if she obliged. Finally, Hough alleged that Minaj attempted to bribed her $20,000 to manipulate her story.
“If I lie now and say that I lied then, you know what that does? Do you know what that’s going to say to my two little girls or even my sons?” Hough told a news outlet in August, as per People magazine.
It seems that a new lawsuit and existing case around Petty failing to prove innocent in the state of California will affect Minaj and her career. In addition, her husband's sentencing, which is due in 2022, might also involve a significant change in their relationship.
Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty were married on 21 October 2019, and both welcomed their son in September 2020.
