Chiquita Tate was a rising criminal defense attorney in Louisiana. On the day of the murder, she was working late on her to prepare for an upcoming murder trial. Her entire career was full of accused killers, drug dealers, and gang members, and they were the one who was the primary suspect.

Chiquita Tate was born in Baton Rouge to her African American parents. Her parents, Oliver "Snowtop" Ruffin (father) and Catherine Tate (mother), were the luckiest parents in her family, as Chiquita was the first in her family to graduate from college. Tate grew up in a family with financial instability. She was raised along with six other siblings. She had three brothers, Jonathan Tate, Joshua Tate, and Emerald Tate, and three sisters, Robin Michelle Tate Stewart, Danita Tate Joseph, and Juantonja Tate Richmond.

Chiquita Tate celebrated her birthday on 15 October every year. She was 33 years old while her death in February 2009. As a native Louisianan, Tate had an American nationality. Moreover, she had an African American nationality and had faith in Christianity as her religion. She had the full name of Chiquita Patrece Tate-Harris. She got Harris from her husband's side.

After studying till 11th grade in Baton Rouge, she moved to Chicago and graduated from a local High School. After high school, she went to Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta and graduated with a bachelor's degree in English. Later she moved to her house in Baton Rouge and did her Juris Doctorate degree from Southern University Law Center.

She was a member of the local chapter of the NAACP, American Bar Association, Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, and the Alcohol and Beverage Control Board, where she had been recently elected as assistant chairwoman.

Who Killed Chiquita Tate?

On the night of 19 February 2009, Chiquita Tate was preparing for her defense for an upcoming double murder trial, and she never returned home. The next day, her body was discovered in the bloodshed in her office, and she had around 40 injuries to her body and face. It seems she tried to fight back as she had broken the nail of her Pinky finger. Everything in her office was there other than her wallet.

Primarily all her high-profile clients with criminal records were gone through. While investigating, a woman gave a tip about Tate's wallet being found on Gardere Lane. At the same time, the lab report showed that the hair found on Tate's hand was from some kind of wig. After various false leads, the investigation was directed toward her husband, Greg Harris. Tate and Harris were married a year prior to her death in a small event.

While looking into Greg's history, they found he had records of domestic violence and had been accused of hitting Chiquita. After questioning Gerg and going through his phone record, police got a search warrant for his car and house. In Greg's car, police found the wig and a protection glass with blood. After testing both, police confirmed that Chiquita Tate was killed by her husband, Greg Harris.

Greg was charged with second-degree murder but was convicted of manslaughter. He was sentenced to 40 years without parole.
