The Parasite actress Park So Dam has been diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer, according to a statement released from her agency.
The ArtistCompany released an official statement on Monday for their actress, Park So Dam, which said, “Actress Park So Dam was diagnosed with papillary Thyroid cancer from her regular health examination, and she completed surgery following the doctor’s recommendation. As the long awaited “Special Delivery” is soon premiering, actress Park So Dam is very disappointed that she cannot be together with fans who have waited and shown support.”
The agency added, “Although actress Park So Dam cannot participate in “Special Delivery” promotions, she is cheering on the “Special Delivery” premiere. We once again express gratitude to the “Special Delivery” actors and production team who are also overcoming a difficult situation together with everyone who supports “Special Delivery” and actress Park So Dam.”
They went on to conclude their statement saying, “Actress Park So Dam will focus on recovery in order to greet everyone in good health in the future and her agency Artist Company will also do our best for the actress to recover her health. Thank you.”
The actress's upcoming film, Special Delivery, is set to premiere on 12 January.
Park So Dam Dating Life
Park So Dam had shared her heartbreaking love story on 11 December on JTBC’s ‘Gamsung Camping’ TV show, where she made a guest appearance.
The actress, for the first time, spoke about her dating life and said, “When I was in middle school, I liked this guy at my school. I didn’t know his name, so my close friend and I used to call him, ‘school uniform guy’. He looked amazing with the school uniform on.”
She went on to say, “One Day, I received a text message from a random number. It turned out to be ‘school uniform guy’. He apparently had asked one of my friends for my number. After talking for a while, we ended a date. After dating, he told me he didn’t want to see me anymore.”
She continued, “When asked why, he said, he planned to go to a foreign language high school, so he wanted to focus on his studies. But you know what? He failed to go to one. But the funny thing was, I couldn’t get over him. I asked him out three times over the course of two years after he first ‘dumped’ me.”
The actress shared, laughing, “I cried every night listening to GUMMY’s ‘If You Come Back’. I used to think there was no one else for me except him. Now it’s all a good memory.”
Back in June 2020, the actress was seen smiling ear-to-ear with her co-star Park Bo Gum while holding each other’s hands after their wrap-up party. The photo started dating rumors, and fans were cheering up for them, but the rumors stayed rumors as both of their agencies confirmed and denied their relationship.
According to a source from the actress’s agency, Park So Dam and Park Won Sook are related and said, “It’s true that Park Won Sook and Park So Dam are first cousins twice removed. Their agencies are different. Rather than trying to keep silent about their family relations, they were walking on their own paths.”
It is said that Park So Dam is the granddaughter of Park Won Sook’s male cousin, which means Park Won Sook is a cousin of Park So Dam’s grandfather.

The actress Park So Dam was born in 1991 in South Korea as the oldest child with two siblings. The actress dreamt of being an actress after watching the musical, Grease.
Her parents were initially against her pursuing acting and said they changed their mind when they saw her happy after coming home at night from work.
The actress revealed in a variety show named A Three Meals A Day that she was interested in appearing on the show, saying, “I grew up with my grandmother in Gangwon Province, which left me with wonderful memories, so I was really attracted to this show when it was first suggested.”
