Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been a critical health issue of this time as the death tolls thousands and thousands worldwide. And the United States is at the height of worst-case scenario the world, as of now. In the United States alone, the number of people dying from this pandemic has reached over twenty thousand since its breakout. Many say that the United States was not prepared for the virus and its possible outcome, which led to the loss of thousands of lives.
Anthony Fauci, an American physician, and immunologist released a statement at CNN saying that America could have saved the lives of many. He further added:
"If we had, right from the beginning, shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different."
While Anthony Fauci appeared at CNN, the host Jake Tapper asked him social distancing, physical distancing, stay-at-home measures could have been saved the life of people if there was a lockdown since February, not mid-March. Responding to his curiosity, Anthony mentioned:
"I mean, obviously, you could logically say, that if you had a process that was ongoing, and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives. Obviously, no one is going to deny that. But what goes into those kinds of decisions is complicated. But you’re right. I mean, obviously, if we had, right from the very beginning, shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different. But there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then.”
In many extents, Anthony is right. When we observe the rate of new cases and death from the deadly Coronavirus, the United States seems to have been affected to the peak. And it might be the reason for not imposing lockdown in a favorable time and condition or not being prepared for the virus that eventually killed thousands of people in the nation and worldwide.
Anthony has already cautioned that 100,000 to 200,000 people could lose their life due to Coronavirus before the crisis gets over.
Dr. Fauci has stood as the public figure of America's fight against the pandemic alongside President Donald Trump at the White House's daily updates. However, Fauci considers Trump as a man of 'hope, layperson standpoint' rather than the initiator of the scientific approach.
