The actress Alicia Witt's parents Robert, 80, and Diane,75 were found dead inside their Massachusetts home on 20 December 2021. According to E! News, there were no signs of foul play as notified by the Worcester Police Department and later an investigation was launched into the matter. However, the cause of death was not released.
Many people were curious about the couple's tragic passing and after a month, the actress finally addressed misconceptions about her family in a Facebook post on 25 January. The actress shared how her parents were deeply kind, curious, intuitive, wise, young at heart, and funny and the circumstances around her parents' sudden passings have become fodder for the press, and how there are some misconceptions rolling around.
Alicia Witt explained how it was very delicate for her to write because she wanted to honor their privacy which they held so tightly but there was an awful irony in the fact that the very lengths they went to protect their privacy, it stripped away in death. The actress shared how her parents were so private that every time she offered to have something repaired for them they refused to allow workers into their house and she was also not able to step inside for well over a decade. She wrote, "I begged, cried, tried to reason with them, tried to convince them to let me help them move - but every time, they became furious with me, telling me I had no right to tell them how to live their lives and that they had it all under control. It was not for a lack of trying on my part, or the part of other people who loved them."
She explained that her parents were a united, intertwined, indivisible force, determined to do things their own way and knowing they had each other, she said, "knowing they had each other -battling them the way I would have had to in order to do this truly I felt like it would have destroyed them."
The Christmas Tree Lane actress also said that her parents were not penniless and but fiercely stubborn, beautifully original souls and with that, they made choices that she couldn't talk them out of.
As per the local outlet, it was suspected that the actress's parents died of hypothermia and according to her, the heat in Robert and Diane's home went out shortly before their death. Alicia wrote, "I will never understand how or why they made the choice not to tell me this. and even if I could have had a crystal ball and looked into the future -if I could have said to them 'you are going to break my heart and the hearts of all who love you with a worst-case-scenario ending if you don't let us help you' -i still think they would have made the same choices. they weren't willing to make different ones."
The actress concluded her tribute by writing, "our last words to each other were 'i love you'. that part was simple; never in doubt. they loved me. so I loved them so." Moreover, the freezing temperatures, a malfunctioning furnace, and a deteriorating home were identified as possible factors in her parents' death as their heater had broken reported by Telegram & Gazette in December 2021.
