Who Is Kei Komuro?

Kei Komuro and his princess wife, Mako Komuro, arrived in the United States on Sunday to begin their new life. They landed at New York City’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and were escorted through the facility by security personnel.

The couple moved to the US, where Kei had attended law school and now works. They finally boarded a commercial flight on Sunday from Tokyo to New York.

Kei Komuro’s princess wife, Mako, lost her royal title when she married a commoner due to the post-war succession laws that allow only male members of the imperial family to ascend the throne.

Kei Komuro Married The Princess Of Akihito

Kei Komuro had met the princess of Akihito in 2012 as a student at the International Christian University in Tokyo. They first announced their engagement in 2017 and were seen as the perfect match for each other. Many people complimented them and sent positive responses; however, the couple found themselves in the eye of negative media when Kei’s mother was involved in a financial scandal. According to the Imperial Household Agency, Komuro’s mother owed £26,700 to her former fiancé and used some of that money for Kei’s education. Many magazines, tabloids, and daytime TV shows began to criticize his family.

Afterward, Komuro attempted to correct as much wrong information as possible by publishing a lengthy 28-page document in April in an attempt to resolve the dispute. Reportedly, Komuro considered paying to settle the dispute, but the unnamed former fiance claimed no progress had been made in a statement to The Asahi Shimbun on 10 October. However, Komuro had said that the money had been a gift, not a loan.

Komuro had met the man on 12 November and said he accepted an undisclosed sum of money from Komuro that was intended to put the debt issue to rest. Initially, the man had wanted to meet with his mother, Kaya, directly but could not due to the deteriorating state of her health.

Komuro was also criticized for his hair in a ponytail when he arrived at Tokyo’s Narita airport to prepare for the wedding and was even questioned whether the hairstyle was acceptable for a man about to marry a princess.

They got married after nine years of dating and four years of engagement due to the financial scandal of the groom’s mother. They got married without the usual rituals of the Imperial family, which include an official engagement ceremony called ‘Nosai no Gi’ followed by ‘Choken no Gi’ ceremony where the couple officially meet and thank the Emperor and Empress. Instead, they registered their marriage without pomp and planned to move to New York by the end of the year to begin their new lifestyle. Princess Mako also declined the dowry from the government, which is given to women from the imperial family who will be stripped of their noble status. The princess was said to be entitled to up to about yen 150 million (approximately $955,560) to help her make a fresh start as a commoner, according to the Japan Times.
