It has been announced that Ashleigh Murray, who played Josie on a CW teen drama, Riverdale, has returned on the screen after the cancellation of the second season of spin-off Katy Keene for a Josie-centered episode. Ashleigh took her time to talk about her return to the series and some spoilers about the new episodes with Entertainment Weekly.
She shared that the new episodes give the scenes where she and the Pussycats return and Josie, already being a superstar, returns home for her next album. She shared details about finding times to reflect on her self-growth, choices made, and her next plans after Riverdale. She added that the episode covers Josie from beginning to end and gives a full idea of what’s going to happen. She recalled her first scene in Riverdale and had a moment where a guy approached her, saying his daughter is a fan of her.
Murray shared with TVLine that it will also be musical episodes where viewers get to hear where she sings the songs of Celine Don and Nina Simone.
Fans have always asked for more screen time for the character Josie in Riverdale, and finally, the writers gave it a go, and Murray has addressed it saying,
“ It definitely is giving the viewers a chance to feel like they themselves are being heard in wondering why this character has been invisible for so long.”
Ashleigh hinted that the episode gives space to Josie regaining her own agency and her power that she never had in Riverdale.
Hence, Murray has expressed her best feelings for the episode and says that “ It’s a wonderfully done episode, and you see a full arc of who Josie McCoy was, is and will continue to become.”
