Black Panther Director Ryan Coogler Was Mistaken For A Bank Robber

The Black Panther director Ryan Coogler was detained by police after he was mistaken for a bank robber at a Bank of American in Atlanta in January. The director recently shared the incident with Variety and insisted that the situation should have never happened to him.

Ryan Coogler then said that Bank of America worked with himand adressed it to his satisfaction and moved on. Ryan had been handcuffed and detained when he went to Bank of America on 7 January wearing a hat, sunglasses and a COVID face mask. He went to Bank and handed the bank teller a withdrawal slip with a note that said his need to withdraw $12,000 cash from his checking account. The note read, "Please do the money count somewhere else. I'd like to be discreet."

However, the bank teller misunderstood the situation and triggered an alert notification from Coogler's bank account and told her boss that it was a robbery attempt. So, four Atlanta PD officers arrived and detained the director's two colleagues outside the bank in a car with engine running. His collegaues were detained in the back of a police vehicle and Ryan got handcuffed at the scene by two officers. Ryan Coogler was released after the bank identified his account and released him and his colleagues.

The Bank of America's spokesperson also released a statement apologising for the incident and expressed their regrets for misinterpretation. He said, "We deeply regret that this incident occured. It never should have happened and we have apologised to Mr. Coogler."

Ryan Coogler married his college sweetheart in 2016 and his wife's name is Zinzi Evans. His wife, Zinzi is an American freelance sign language interpreter, screenwriter, assistant manager, producer and assistant director. Zinzi has mixed racial backgrounds including Filipino and African-American heritage. 

Ryan's wife, Zinzi garduated with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Communitative Disorders and Deaf Studies. She has also worked as a sing language consultant in movies like Rampage, A Wrinkle In Time and Creed.

Ryan has shared that his wife supported his career by providing him Final Draft, a software where a movie can be written. Before that, he used to write in Microsoft Word . They were expecting their first child together in 2018 as his wife, Zinzi was seen with a baby bump in the Oscars.
