Jazz Jennings Gained Weight

Jazz Jennings has revealed her weight gain due to binge eating disorder in a new season of her TLC show I am Jazz trailer. She admitted that she had been binge eating and had an increased appetite due to some of her medications. The trailer also shows how her family responds to her weight gain and quizzes over how much butter she put on her pasta at dinner.

The promo video included Jazz recalling about her life’s up and downs since her acceptance to Harvard University saying,

“Two years ago, I was on my way to one of the greatest institutions in the world, but I was actually struggling severely with mental health issues. I started binge eating and I gained weight and more weight and more weight. And now, almost 100 pounds heavier, here I am today.”

She continued to say in a voiceover, “Having all this extra weight, I can’t do many things with my body that I used to be able to do.”

She also said facing the camera, “ I do experience fat-shaming from my family. It makes me feel really humiliated.”

Jazz had kept her fans updated about her binge eating disorder and explained in a post of Instagram writing, “I'm ready to change my ways. I'm ready to take the initiative and create positive changes when it comes to my health and body.”

Her TLC show I am Jazz season 7 is set to premiere on 30 November at 10 pm.

Jazz Jennings has her supportive parents right by her side with full love and respect for her decisions. Her parents use the pseudonyms Renee and Scott or Jennings for their privacy.

Her mother’s name is Jeanette Renee who has four children with her father, Gregory Scott. Meaning, Jazz has three other siblings who are; Ariel and twins Sander and Griffen. Jeanette has always been full of praise for her youngest child, Jazz saying, “She’s faced a lot of discrimination in her short life. But she handles herself with dignity and pride.”

Her mother, Jeanette. had revealed to Miami Herald that they try to hide their real last name as much as possible and said, “ Our last name is a very Jewish, long last name.”

Jeanette had also posted for Jazz’s 21st birthday writing, “ I'm so proud to be your mother, and can’t wait to see what heights you reach as you continue on your journey called life. I love you from the bottom of my heart.”

Her father, Greg, had also talked about his child, Jazz, saying, “ Renee and I are in 100 percent agreement as to how we should raise Jazz. We don’t encourage, we support. And we just keep listening to what she tells us.”

The real profession of her parents are not revealed for their privacy however, her parents are said to be founders of Transkids Purple Rainbow Foundation which is a group focused on helping trans teens and youth throughout the country.

After choosing Harvard for college, Jazz had opened up about how she felt piles of pressure mounting up to her saying, “ I feel like, with Harvard, I have a lot of mental and physical preparation to do. And if I don’t start really putting in the effort, then I'm not gonna make it.”

This statement of Jazz made her parents worry and her mother, Jeanette told TLC producers that she was deeply concerned saying, “ if she doesn't think she can handle living outside the home, it’s truly upsetting. It's almost like a cry for help. I'm just concerned about her because I don’t think her coping mechanisms are the greatest.”

Jazz also told the viewers about how Ahmir wasn’t the textbook definition of who she expected to go out with but there was something about him that made her drawn to him and felt like there was so much to him.

Her boyfriend had also shared how his mother who lives in Philadelphia is very outspoken and doesn’t support their relationship. According to her, Jazz was still a man and that he would be gay for being in a relationship with Jazz.  Ahmir also said he could be kicked out of his own house for dating a transgender.

However, he still stands up for his mom and says that she’ll still have her views and opinions but also encourages her to just enjoy their time together instead of worrying about his family or whatever.

Moreover, the two have reportedly broken up in April of 2020 and had decided to remain good friends. Ahmir even posted on Instagram declaring that he was now single and spoke with radar online that they hadn’t seen each other for a while.
